Overview

The challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation are increasingly urgent in today’s world. These issues threaten the environment and the livelihoods and well-being of communities globally. The Holy Cross has recognized these challenges’ gravity and taken proactive steps to address them through its diverse initiatives and collaborations.

The Challenge

With its vast population and diverse ecosystems, India faces significant environmental hazards exacerbated by climate change. The country’s long coastlines are particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels, while reliance on fossil fuels and agricultural practices further contribute to environmental degradation. Issues such as air pollution from biomass burning and inadequate access to clean energy exacerbate health risks, particularly among marginalized communities.

Strategic Approach

The Holy Cross has strategically approached climate change and environmental challenges through a multifaceted approach: emphasizing environmental conservation and sustainable energy practices to mitigate climate impacts and promoting resilience-building measures for communities facing climate-related challenges like extreme weather and sea-level rise to empower local communities by fostering education, capacity-building, and sustainable livelihood opportunities, with a focus on inclusivity and enhancing resilience to environmental pressures.
